It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend, Filemon “Phil” Zamora. Phil left us peacefully on April 2, 2024, at the age of 91.
Phil was born on October 25, 1932, in Las Vegas, NM to Doroteo and Dolores Zamora. He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Marian Dene Zamora, granddaughter Justina Garinger, his longtime partner Mary Gonzales, 7 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his family; Son Rene Zamora, Daughters Roxana “Dee” Zamora, and Rachelle “Denise” Zamora (Phillip). Grandchildren Nicholas Zamora (Gwen), Theresa Zamora (Lou), and Anita Zamora (Nick), Sister Rose Robbins, Nieces Liz, Lyn and Echo, and Nephew Eloy. Special extended family Cathy Zamora, Tom Gonzales (Veronica), Gary Gonzales, Jessica Partridge (Tim) and Robert Aragon (Jessica) and many other relatives and friends.
Phil grew up in Las Vegas NM. He enlisted near the beginning of the Korean conflict into the New Mexico National Guard in July of 1950 with Federal Service served August 1950 – May 1952. From May until July 1953, he returned to Las Vegas where he attended Highlands University and worked at the NM State Hospital. He was called back into service until March 1954 and sent back on leave until he returned to duty from April 1954 – May 1957 when he was honorably discharged from the United States Military.
Phil began a serious relationship with his “most beautiful woman in the world”, Dene. They were married in June of 1959. They moved to Santa Fe where they raised their children. He worked a few jobs until he found his career as a Mail Clerk with the United States Postal Service. Phil retired after 32 years of service. Phil loved his family, but he also loved to collect books and collectors’ items. He enjoyed traveling, liked to go to the casino, and spend time at the ranch in Stanley with his partner Mary. In recent years, he enjoyed spending time with his children, his visits with his grandchildren and going for rides north to Pojoaque and to Santuario de Chimayo.

The family would like to thank Sheryl and the Amber care hospice staff, family, friends, and neighbors for all your help, love, support, and prayers.
A viewing will take place on April 11, 2024, at 10:00 am, immediately followed by an 11:00 am funeral mass at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 511 Alicia St. Santa Fe NM. Burial will follow at 1:30 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe NM.
